    In 2007, the two brothers Gianni and Giorgio Venica, the current owners of the winery, dedicated this wine to their father Adelchi. A thank you to all that he had left them: from the cellar to the vineyards, to the precious teachings, not only of the winemaking trade.

  • The vineyard

    The Ribolla Gialla vine, a white grape variety, is indigenous to Friuli and is characterised by its bunches that, when ripe, acquire a particularly warm and intense, almost golden colour, from which the ‘yellow’ attribute in the variety’s name derives.

Harvest

Grapes harvested by hand and destemmed between 23 and 24 September 2021.

Vinification | Aging

After harvesting, the grapes are macerated for about 14 hours at a temperature of 10°/12° C in special containers, protected from oxygen with innovative systems by recycling their own fermentation carbon dioxide, in order to reduce the amount of antioxidants. The must ferments and matures on the lees for 5 months partly in large 20/27 HL wooden barrels and partly in steel containers.

Bottling

The wine is then blended and bottled at full moons between March and June 2022.

Sensory information

Color

Ribolla Gialla del Collio has a greenish yellow colour.

Olfactory notes

The bouquet, characterised by the scent of wild flowers, is pleasant and delicate. On the nose, notes of the typical Golden apple and Kaiser pear blend with citrus notes.

Taste profile

Great freshness typical of the variety and an almost brackish savouriness that goes hand in hand with a slight minerality. The citrus notes return and act as a closure together with an elegant acidity.

To be paired with

Delicate seafood starter, sandwiches with tuna sauce, courgette velouté, butter and salmon croutons or grilled chicken salad.

The Wine

In 2007, the two brothers Gianni and Giorgio Venica, the current owners of the winery, dedicated this wine to their father Adelchi. A thank you for everything he had left them: from the cellar to the vineyards, to the precious teachings, not only of the winemaking trade.
This is a wine of the heart that therefore represents the bond and the passing of the baton from one generation of the Venica family to the next.

Meden

Wine of the heart

With the purchase of 5 hectares in the locality of Meden, the production of Ribolla Gialla, an ancient Friuli grape variety that well represents the passing of the baton from one generation to the next, is increased.

With the 2007 vintage, Gianni and Giorgio dedicate “L’ Adelchi” to their father, a thank you for the precious assets he received, including the intangible ones enclosed in the treasure chest of rural wisdom, where human values and respect for nature come first.

The vineyard

Ribolla Gialla, a white berry grape variety, is autochthonous from Friuli and it’s typical for its bunches which, when completely ripen, acquire a particularly warm and intense color, almost golden. From here the attribute “gialla” (= yellow) in the name of the variety.

It is a rather ancient kind of vine with not very well-defined origins but anyhow present in Friuli-Venezia Giulia since the XIII-XIV century. Some argue that it was already grown in the region in the Roman times, others say that this variety came from the Ionian Islands, passing through Dalmatia, at the time part of the Republic of Venice.

Our Ribolla Gialla vineyards are located within the DOC Collio territory.
