Pinot Bianco
Pinot Bianco is a grape variety that arrived in Collio over 150 years ago. From Alsace, it found its permanent home here, in the Friuli region, because on these gentle hills with mild microclimates and significant day-to-night temperature variations, it encountered the climatic conditions and soil capable of embracing and enhancing its character and its unique qualities. Above all, its elegance.
The sweet slopes of Collio, on their part, first welcomed and then made the French grape one of their favorite sons. So much so that today, Pinot Bianco is a modest but precious ambassador of this territory.
One of the most elegant white wines in the world
The cultivation of Pinot Bianco is highly restricted in Collio. It's a limited production that aims to bring out the best in every cluster, with its characteristic small, round, and compact berries. But it's limited mainly because Pinot Bianco is a very delicate grape, challenging to manage, and therefore requires a lot of care. It thrives in cool and well-lit areas: well-defined sites that must be carefully chosen, with rows to walk through every day to observe the vines and provide them with the necessary attention and care. It's a grape variety that yields a noble wine admired for its finesse, to the extent that it can be considered one of the most elegant white wines in the world, capable of delivering complex expressions and diverse nuances, all of which are balanced and discreet, as Pinot Bianco never overdoes it, even in its expressive capacity.

Pinot Bianco
from Collio
The elegance that Pinot Bianco takes on in Collio can be seen by observing the landscape: the vineyards that blend into the forest and the forest that emerges in the vineyard, trees, plants, and herbs with different shades. These are the endless golden-green nuances that define Collio, creating a rainbow composed of the multiple and inexhaustible tones of vegetation.
It is from this precious green that Pinot Bianco becomes a storyteller: each vintage fills the glasses with different nuances, each sip of this wine offers a new and distinct shade, arousing in those who drink it the desire to delve deeper, to discover new colors in the rainbow of tasting and in the essence of Collio. These are delicate, refined, and soft tones, and they are what make Friulian Pinot Bianco, including that of the Venica family, an unexpected wine, capable of bringing sips of emotion and pleasure to the glass: sips that tell the freshness of Collio's golden-green and elegantly stimulate the senses, evoking memories. Because Pinot Bianco is such a sought-after and profound wine that it can translate the complexity of the environment, the land, and the history of the wineries that produce it.

Venica&Venica's Pinot Bianco
As custodians of the land for four generations, the Venica family cannot help but love Pinot Bianco. Gianni Venica, who always lends his ear and attention to the vineyards, reserves careful and attentive supervision and his warmest smile for this grape, both among the rows and in the cellar, alongside his brother Giorgio.
Meanwhile, Ornella Venica doesn't hesitate to admit it: it's her favorite wine. Because within a glass of Pinot Bianco, we find the sun and colors of Collio: its harmony and delicacy, its sweet and unique complexity. Because it's a wine that knows how to reveal the elegance of the terroir. Serena Venica, on the other hand, loves to share the elegance of Pinot Bianco with younger generations during tastings, often leaving them astonished by a wine that is fresh and unexpectedly engaging.
Tàlis, Venica&Venica's Pinot Bianco, means dandelion in Friulian. Yellow like the sun. Flowers brushed by the wind along with the green meadow, all of which come together in the glasses of this wine: sun, the freshness of the wind, and a blossoming field. Cultivated in vineyards within the Collio DOC in the municipality of Dolegna del Collio, the Pinot Bianco grapes undergo maceration for about 12 hours at a constant temperature. Temperature control is vital in all stages of winemaking for us to highlight the specific characteristics of the grape variety.
A small portion of Talis also undergoes a brief passage in large wooden barrels (25-27HL) to gain more structure and complexity while preserving the delicacy and elegance that distinguish it both on the nose and in the mouth.

The Emotional Nuances of Tàlis Pinot Bianco
On the nose, Tàlis exudes the scents of herbs, chamomile, Granny Smith apple, and white flowers.
But it also leaves room for the chalky notes, a winning characteristic of all Collio wines. Tàlis Pinot Bianco confirms its elegance on the palate: fresh, floral, and fruity, rich in minerality, but above all, long and persistent. It's a wine that engages you gradually. With the first sip, it intrigues with its elegance and purity; with the second, it begins to reveal its increasing intensity, and by the third sip, it captivates you dramatically. It's a sip that doesn't satisfy you; it immediately invites you to savor another, and that's the secret of a great wine.
Always elegant and never over the top, the sensation it imparts is one of well-being and relaxation; Tàlis Pinot Bianco makes you feel good about yourself, and that is the main virtue of this grape variety.
The Pinot Bianco Network
In Collio In 2019, the Venica family joined forces with six other winemaking families in Collio to form a business network aimed at protecting, safeguarding, and promoting Pinot Bianco, known as the Pinot Bianco Network in Collio.
We chose Pinot Bianco precisely for its ability to represent, more than other wines, the territory. Ours is a land of white wines, well-described and expressed by Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, and Friulano, but Pinot Bianco, with its elegant character, its ability to bring the nuances of the hills, the characteristics of the environment and the land, and the unity between man and nature into the glasses, allows us to tell new stories.
The seven families of the Network have different sensibilities in terms of vineyard cultivation and winemaking, and each grape variety is located in a different site. But together, the seven Pinot Biancos reveal the different and specific nuances characteristic of each site in this region. They are many stories through a single grape variety, revealing that wine is a prince at the table but can also become an ambassador: of people, businesses, and generational transitions. Indeed, the aim of the Network is also to be a project for the new generations and a way to convey the identity values that each company has passed down to them.
We do this by rediscovering and revealing the longevity of Pinot Bianco and Collio wines, their aptitude for aging while maintaining the freshness, minerality, and elegance typical of Collio wines.
Venica&Venica has always believed in and supported network projects that champion the importance of enhancing and preserving the territory. The Pinot Bianco Network in Collio does so in a common and heartfelt account of seven producers: the importance of unity, of walking together and preserving the vinum loci, to protect the specificity and peculiarity of Collio.
