Ronco delle Cime

Friulano

DOC Collio

The wine

This wine aims to narrate our territory, a borderland with many people and stories connected to the family's local tradition.
ronco cime

The history

It was born in 1999 from the desire of Gianni and Giorgio Venica to dedicate a true Cru to a special plot of land so well-suited to cultivating Tocai Friulano grapes.

The vineyard

During the summer, when the refreshing "borin" breeze from the north blows through the rows of the Cime hill, it seems to whisper to the lush Friulano vines nestled there, gently caressing the clusters as if to pamper and protect them from the summer heat.

Harvest

Grapes were harvested and destemmed between September 3rd and September 18th, 2022.

Vinification | Aging

After harvesting, the grapes are macerated for about 18 hours at a temperature of 11/12°C in dedicated containers, protected from oxygen with innovative systems that recycle fermentation carbon dioxide, in order to minimize the use of antioxidants. Approximately 40% of the wine matures in large wooden barrels of 20/27 hectoliters, while the remaining portion is aged in stainless steel containers.

Bottling

The wine was bottled during the full moons between March and June 2023.

Sensory information

Color

Bright golden yellow color.

Olfactory notes

From the highest hill, the Friulano Cru acquires intense aromas: William pear, yellow peach, and delicate hints of herbs and field flowers. Closing with a subtle note of almond.

Taste profile

On the palate, it has a substantial structure. Warm and harmonious, with pleasant saltiness and freshness. A full-bodied and enveloping wine with fruity and intense undertones; it concludes with the typical almond aftertaste of Friulano.

To be paired with

Shrimp risotto with a hint of orange, leek and wild garlic velouté or omelette, aged prosciutto, cow's milk and goat cheese, fried eggs with shaved truffle, tomato and swordfish tagliolini, porcini mushroom risotto with a generous sprinkle of parsley.

The Wine

"Ronco delle Cime Friulano" and "Ronco delle Mele Sauvignon" are the two Cru wines of the Venia & Venica winery, both representing the "Spirit of the Place" project. The name "Ronco delle Cime" is the toponym of the vineyard from which the Friulano grapes of Collio originate.

This wine aims to narrate our territory, a borderland with many people and stories connected to the family's local tradition. It was born in 1999 from the desire of Gianni and Giorgio Venica to dedicate a true Cru to a special plot of land so well-suited to cultivating Tocai Friulano grapes. The initial planting dates back to 1974, with morphological reshaping carried out in 2005.

The vineyard and the vine

Ronco delle Cime

DNA studies of Friulano have established its origins beyond the Alps, specifically as a relative of Sauvignonasse, or Sauvignon Vert. After its arrival from France, the grape variety subsequently evolved, adapting to the soil and climate. It's the Friulian people who have given it its current identity, transforming it into a symbol of the territory and local culture.

The vineyard

During the summer, when the refreshing "borin" breeze from the north blows through the rows of the Cime hill, it seems to whisper to the lush Friulano vines nestled there, gently caressing the clusters as if to pamper and protect them from the summer heat. This is o ur highest vineyard, with a maximum altitude of around 270 meters above sea level. Its northwest orientation with a view of Matajur, Monte Nero, and the glacier on Canin, its exposure to the cool breeze coming from the mountains, the significant diurnal temperature variation, and the subsoil composed of marly sandstones typical of the Collio DOC, all make the Ronco delle Cime vineyard a special plot, so well-suited to cultivating Tocai Friulano grapes that it lends its name to one of the top wines of the Dolegna del Collio estate.
