The Wine

An historical French variety, that was taken in Friuli-Venezia Giulia in 1869 from the Count Teodoro de La Tour and become immediately the most popular red wine in the region.

Now a days, in fact, in all the local restaurants (osteria) Merlot is the most requested type of red wine when it is asked for a “taj di ros” (glass of red wine), to pair with crudo ham or omelette.

Now adopted and loved by the people of the region as a local variety, this wine holds a special place in every Friulano’s heart.

The vineyard and the vine

Our vineyards are located in the DOC Collio area where Merlot find the perfect habitat, producing wines with light, well balanced and elegant tannins.

The vineyard

Coming from Franch and developed all over the world, it is one of the “international” grape varieties universally recognized, but his history is different in each region.

In French territory, the name of this grape is traditionally not mentioned on the label, in favor of the name of the winery or of the production place name or of the single vineyard.

In Friuli, Merlot has been always nominated like that also on the bottle in order to spread this variety in the local area, integrating it in the region culture and promote the awareness of the name of the variety.
